Uniting around a future for local news produced by locals #ByDallasForDallas

Allow us to introduce ourselves:

We are the new Dallas News Guild.

No one has ever said those words before. As best we can tell, historically, there has not been a unionized newspaper newsroom in Texas for many decades.

But we are not doing this for ourselves. We are doing it for our historic newspaper and our readers in Dallas, the great state of Texas and across North America. We’re here to help our owners preserve the legacy of the company by protecting journalism.

Our slogan is #ByDallasForDallas, and we hope you share it in support.

As we state in our mission statement, “North Texas deserves a news organization representative of its community, one that strives to hold power to account, tells its people’s stories and reports on the news and culture that make our beloved Lone Star State feel like home.”

We do believe management seeks the same goal. We also believe that with a united workforce and the opportunity to negotiate over our working conditions we can create an environment conducive to producing award-winning, impactful journalism for decades to come.

We hope A.H. Belo and majority owner Robert Decherd voluntarily recognizes our union to avoid the distraction and expense of a campaign and election. We’d rather invest in journalism for our readers – it’s what we do.

We are the journalists of Al Día Dallas and The Dallas Morning News.
